The Best Family Fun Activities In Bude

Get adventurous and have fun with the family during your break in Bude. Make this holiday one you won’t forget with one of these exciting, exhilarating and fun activities!

1. Harlequinns Leisure Centre

We begin our list with the closest leisure park to our resort, Harlequinns Leisure Centre. The park boasts one of the biggest play zones in the south west and a funky disco-lit ten pin bowling alley. Open all year round, Harlequinns is the ideal choice of day activity if the Cornish weather takes an unfortunate turn for the worse.

2. Tintagel Castle

History buff? Visit Tintagel Castle and immerse yourself in the legend of King Arthur, Cornwall’s heritage and some of the most beautiful scenery on the North Cornish coast. Climb the 148 steps on to the headland, explore the atmospheric castle ruins and take in the breathtaking coastline along the island paths.

3. Sailing, Windsurfing & Kayaking

At Upper Tamar Lakes, go for a sail or try out windsurfing on the tranquil waters. This is a great opportunity to learn a new sport with your family from experienced and qualified instructors. The picturesque setting overlooking the stunning Cornish and Devonshire countryside is also ideal for an afternoon picnic to recuperate from a day of rigorous activities! Open April 1st to September 30th.

4. Milky Way Adventure Park

Rides and coasters, slides and play areas, live shows, sports, countryside, crafts and adventures for the little ones! Milky Way Adventure Park is just a 30 minute drive from Bude Holiday Resort, and the perfect day adventure. It’s home to North Devon’s largest indoor adventure play area, assault courses for adults as well as kids, amazing live displays from the North Devon Bird of Prey Centre, exhilarating rollercoasters and dodgy dodgems! Visit their website for opening times and prices dependent on time of year.

5. Rowing and Pedaloes

The heart of Bude and its heritage, the Bude Canal, is the perfect place for a leisurely few hours away with your family along the peaceful waters of the canal. Take in the surrounding beauty while sailing along on your pedalo or rowing boat. Rent a boat from Bude Rowing Boats on the Wharf. Open from Good Friday until September 1st.

6. Family Bike Rides

Bring your family, get on your bikes and get out there! Cycling is one of the best ways to explore the local area and experience the Cornwall’s coast in a different light. On a bike you can go further, see more and get adventurous. So head to Bude Bike Hire, grab your set of wheels and go on a cycling adventure with your family.

7. Archery

Embrace your inner Robin Hood, Katniss or Merida and learn how to shoot a bow and arrow! Visit Shoreline Extreme Sports to aim, set and fire overlooking the cliffs and beaches of Bude. This unique sport is something a little different from your usual surfing, coasteering or kayaking experiences, requiring skill and technique over strength or agility.

8. Horse Riding

Beginners and keen riders alike can go for a ride along the unspoilt countryside, bridle paths, sandy beaches and wooded valleys of North Cornwall. Enjoy your ride on a well behaved horse, pony or shetland at the riding stables in Bude. Try Broomhill Manor Stables or Gooseham Barton Riding Stables for all ages and abilities and be accompanied by friendly and experienced instructors for a safe and fun trip!

9. Arts and Crafts

For the budding artist and creatively minded, why not try a local arts and crafts workshop? With several arts and crafts shops and galleries in town, don’t simply shop for local artist’s work, but discover just how they do it! Beau Nidol will teach you all there is to know about glass, with workshops on how to make fused glass, tiffany glass, stained glass and bone carving. Their classes run all year and are suitable for ages 8 and up when accompanied by an adult. Claire at The Kitchen Front also runs creative workshops year round where you can create something for your kitchen at home.

10. Trethorne Leisure Park

Trethorne Leisure Park boasts huge indoor and outdoor adventure play areas, ten pin bowling, ninja dodgems and an exciting games arcade. Just a 30-40 minute drive form Bude Holiday Resort in Launceston, this is another fantastic park to visit for a guaranteed a fun-filled and adventure packed day for the kids.

11. Surfing

When in Cornwall! Learning to surf is an absolute must when visiting the famous surfing coasts of Cornwall. We guarantee that you will fall in love with Cornwall and will be returning time and time again to this English piece of paradise. It is therefore a necessity that you and your family join in with one of Cornwall’s greatest pastimes, jump on that board and learn how to ride the waves. Once you stand up on that wave, you’ll be drawn to the salty waters of the North Atlantic coast time and time again!

12. Coasteering

We end our list with something not for the faint hearted. Make your visit to Cornwall that bit more memorable with a scramble, swim, jump and climb across Cornwall’s coast. Go coasteering with Shoreline Extreme Sports or Outdoor Adventure, where you will be lead by an experienced instructor around the jutting cliffs and hidden coves of Bude’s shoreline, learning about the surrounding wildlife with the whole family.
